Five northeastern Colorado counties will be asking voters this November to approve secession from Colorado with the goal of forming a 51st state, and others may join them. This is a sad commentary on the emerging legacy of the Hickenlooper administration and his out of-control state legislature. Both the Governor and the Democrat majority in the general assembly have ignored rural Colorado’s needs on a host of issues from energy to gun rights and tax rates.
Everyone knows this secession movement would not be happening if the former Mayor of Denver had not shown disdain for the concerns and values of rural Colorado. Hickenlooper recently claimed rural Colorado, unlike Denver, is full of"backward thinking people.” I promise that in a Tancredo administration, rural Colorado will be welcome at the head of the table, not locked in the basement.
